What Animals Live in Kelp Forests? - American Oceans

About us:
 Currently, one of the largest contributing factors to climate change is CO2 emissions. Here at Kelp Help Foundation, we are determined to reduce the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere to net 0 by using the power of kelp forests. Kelp can pull carbon dioxide from the air through carbon sequestration. An overview of this process is when the kelp absorbs the CO2 from the air into the kelp tissue. When the kelp breaks from their bed, it floats to the bottom of the ocean, and the CO2 gets sequestered into deep ocean sentiment. At KHF, we help businesses, organizations, and or individuals build small and large-scale kelp farms. By having more kelp farms, we can get more carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, and we start seeing a greener tomorrow.
 
Why KHF:
I am passionate about this foundation because I know how powerful the ocean is and how integral the health of the ocean is to our health. Growing up in Southern California, the ocean was just a drive away, and at a young age, I remember developing a deep admiration for its beauty. I took oceanography and marine biology classes in high school and college to strengthen my knowledge of the ocean, marine animals, and marine plants. After learning about all the data and statistics of climate change, I knew I wanted to join the movement. With my pre-established affinity for the ocean, I started my research there and learned about the process of kelp carbon sequestration. I am passionate about making the world greener, and the best place to start is the ocean.

What makes KHF Unique:
We are unique because we help others build their own kelp farms, and we also have our kelp farms on site where we sell our kelp to various businesses. We intend to promote the use of kelp products in the market and inspire more people to build their own kelp farms. The amazing thing about kelp is that it can be used for many purposes, such as "toothpaste, shampoos, salad dressings, pudding, cakes, dairy products, frozen foods, and even pharmaceuticals" (US Department). 


Why AMDP should invest:
AMDP should invest in the Kelp Help Foundation because this is the direction all businesses are going, meaning ecologically friendly businesses. "research found that 23% of companies have made a public commitment that by 2023 will be carbon neutral" (23% of the fortune). Also, the Inflation Reduction Act will significantly help green businesses, and KHF and AMDP together will be able to use all the benefits from this act. Lastly, the Kelp Help Foundation is a great way to promote the circular economy; using more biodegradable products will lead to less waste and a green and healthier world.

Book 1 Post 1

    The book that I chose to read was "American Like Me" by America Ferrera. There were two reasons I decided to read this book, the first being that I loved watching America in movies such as "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Secondly, being Latina myself, I was interested in learning more about her story. In the book, she discusses her upbringing and all the trials and tribulations she experienced with her first name being America. Such as the first day of school, classmates bullying her, and her internal struggle with personal identity. Then each following chapter is written by different people who inspire America. The book is written engagingly and feels like a friend telling you a story.     What I have taken away from this book is that each person's experience, while different, has core similarities.
